Marrakesh Day 2

Today I managed to retrieve all my old pictures after having initially lost them. I've transferred them off the old USB and now they are just sitting in a file on my laptop, so I thought okay, yes they are from way back in 2013 but better late than never?! For anyone interested, this is for you😁.

Day 1-4 Marrakesh
Day 4  Casablanca
Day 5 -7  Fez
Day 8-11 Essaouira
Day 12-14 Marrakesh

The owner of the riad Nicole advised us on a few places to go. Our first stop was to Maison de la photographie, that was walking distance from our Riad.

love the riad style

From there we then went to the Bin yusuf madressa(aka Ben Youssef Quranic school)
This place was stunning. It is truly a remarkable building. On visiting the madressa I was deeply saddened and humbled. This beautiful Maderssa that had been built in the 14th century, that had been a home to many students and seekers of knowledge for over four centuries, was now just a place for tourists to come  and take pictures. I was told that the madressa had been closed initially for restoration in 1960 and a different madressa had been opened in its place elsewhere. Coming from a boarding madressa I was intrigued by the students minimal rooms and could only imagine the amazing atmosphere that must have been with students milling the grounds.

I remember being approached for pictures, some people thought I was part of the cultural experience, dressed in my abaya and niqab. 😂

                                                   The architecture was amazing.

The quality of the pictures are not great to say the least, what can I say it was back in the day! Lol I have a lot of pictures on this USB. Don't worry I won't share them all.

We then  headed to a museum not very off. On the way we spotted some children carrying raw bread dough. All the people in the local area would send there dough to a "bakery " and would collect the baked bread later in the day. They mark the bread ever so slightly so they can tell them apart.

Thinking back I can't believe the amount of things we managed to do in one day. From here we went to a museum, we had salah breaks, food breaks, and even managed to visit a park and a spot of shopping in between

Here are some of the pictures from the museum and other random things we did on our second day.

See you on the next one...whenever that may be
