Memory Lane

I may have been a seriously weird child, and then grown into a weird adult. As a child, I'm talking primary school age.
I have so many memories of doing such crazy things so I thought I'd share some of them with you, so you  can :
1. You can run for the hills, screaming "psychopath"
2. Share your childhood memories with me and make me feel slightly better

So,hmm..where to start, when I was in primary school I was reading mainly Roald Dahl books, Narnia , The Famous Five.( I don't know, maybe they affected my brain..)

So, what do I remember, before I even went to school,I remember telling my then new"chachis"brothers that my mum was not my real mum, but my stepmother, and I was just like Cinderella, and yes they believed me.So, that may have been a bit awkward for the grown ups. My mum still reminds me of it now...

So, when you  were small did you think that you had some magical powers of some sort?Or was that just me?!
In the bathroom cabinet I found this lovely bottle, that must have had some bubble bath or something inside, but who cares about that right?! With that my brother and I made" the best potion ever"; we found different things in the bathroom and chucked everything inside and made a red potion (that looked like blood.) Till today I can't quite remember how we got it red..Maybe when I go to my mum and dads I'll have a rummage around to see if I can find it.

When we first moved into our house, I distinctly remember walking into my brothers new wardrobe and thinking ,Yes, next step any time now I'm going to feel the crunch of snow under my feet and I'm going to be in Narnia. Who does that??! Did anybody else do that?!

I have loads of memories of  witches hiding behind the curtains, being haunted by the ghost of the headteacher who passed away. In my defence, my whole class believed in the ghost of Mr Ricketts .The ghost would strum a guitar while singing "kumbayaa my lord" at a certain place at the end of the playground. Our new headteacher was quite puzzled when on the day we had to sing that particular hymn in assembly  my whole class fell silent in respect for the ghost and refused to sing it.

We also tied ourselves to the new "court area" fence, singing "we will not be moved" , in protest to the slot time we had been given for using the playing court.(our time would mainly be when we would be eating our lunch) We stayed until a teacher came storming out the school building, and most of us wriggled out of the skipping rope we had used to tie ourselves and ran...all except Alexander Billing..he was really short and couldn't make the jump..

There's an old shed at my parents, that is still left intact with "Girls club" written on the wall( with the car paint tube I found in the cellar). My madressah friends and I would think we were psychics and try to read each others minds  in the shed, and set booby traps for robbers that would enter the house.

As far as Maktab/Madressah went, I was the one having the stick chucked at me, or getting whacked on the fingers for not getting the "ka " or "kee" right in urdu. I also remember the same teacher passing my homework book around the class and saying "look at her handwriting, the worst in the class, and she goes to a private school"..yes,all the in the past -I'm an "adult" now...

The best teacher in my madressa years had to be Molana Qaasim.( he's still around). He would teach us real things that we were actually interested in and there was always "drama"going on...and I have some pretty good memories of that class( I was still in primary school then but yr 5 & 6.) Those of you who were in that class may remember, they were good times..

I have a very clear memory of starting my "molisaabs" car, (how crazy is that?!) It was near Jalsah time and  the same Molana Qaasim asked me to get a nasheed "tape" from his car. So I went down with his daughter, and we were rummaging around to look for the one he wanted. For some reason, I don't know who decided ( most probs me because I was older) to try and play the cassette. I clearly remember turning the key in the ignition, and the car lurchinhg forward,( the car must have been in gear) and both of us screaming and quickly turning the engine off...

There are loads of things I could go on and on about but then this would be one very long and boring post...
May you all have many more wonderful Memories...
