Reminders

The mere mention of the word "Dentist" is enough to break one into a sweat. Luckily for me due to living in such a cold climate, and physical activity kept to a minimum, sweating is not an option. On the other hand, having flashing images of a dentist (always with an accent of unknown origin) slapping on latex gloves while revving a drill and laughing maniacally is enough to keep my fear of dentist well and truly alive.

Three weeks ago, as I was biting into a lovely cheese toasted sandwich, to my horror my tooth just broke off!
At first, my brain couldn't quite comprehend that the hard alien object in my mouth was actually part of my own tooth. It was well and truly a nightmare.

Those of you who are familiar with going to to the dentist know if you don't go for a regular check-up after six months, you are automatically taken off the register. The last time I had been to the dentist was literally years ago. Five years ago in fact.

Without boring you with the all the gory details,( my emergency dentist did turn out to have an accent of unknown origin) I had to make two further appointments to have a crown put in. Added to that it would also cost me just over two hundred pounds!

All in all, it has been horrible, and Alhamdulillah I'm glad it's all over. During this process, I was reminded that believing we are in control of our life is an illusion. The person behind the driving wheel is not us. We have little reminders all the time that our life is in our Lord and Creator Allah Ta'ala's hands. Who knows what tomorrow brings? Today it may be a tooth tomorrow it could be your life.
I may sound a tad slightly melodramatic, but don't we all know someone who has either passed away, or been involved in an accident, or diagnosed with a long-term illness?
I don't wish to spread a melancholy gloom to you the readers, but let's make the most of what we have today. Let us pray Allah saves us from all illnesses and use the small reminders before it's too late. Life is short.

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Take benefit of five before five:your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free-time before your preoccupation, and your life before your death.”(Hakim)

Time is like river. You can’t touch the same water twice,
because the flow that has passed will never pass again.
Enjoy every moment of life…
